Nintendo unleash their monstrous wired headset for the Switch
As of today, Nintendo released pictures of their new Splatoon 2 style headphones for the Nintendo Switch. Why is this newsworthy? Well, quite simply, it is the first time we get to see how the company envisions people will use their headphone and voice chat features (with the latter being relegated to a smart-phone app). And I have to say, I am surprised…surprised with how insane their vision is for a company I assumed had finally lost a fair bit of their hubris when it came to how it treats its customers..
Just look at this diorama of the whole thing:
Unbelievable, right? That is a wire coming from the Switch, going into presumably an audio-splitter that your headphones and your smart phone also plug into. Considering the Switch is sleek and ergonomic, this thing seems to be the complete opposite in every facet.
This is the audio-splitter, could it be any bigger? Each wire is roughly 50cm long (which seems quite short).
And this is it attached to the most hideous headphones I have had the displeasure of seeing for a long time.
Now hopefully, hopefully, this isn’t what Nintendo recommends to both talk online and use your headphones. I pray that this Frankenstein’s monster of a glorified headphone jack is just something made to coincide with Splatoon 2. However the company has made a lot of left-field and anti-consumer decisions throughout its long and storied history, so who really knows?
