Pacific Rim television series details released
THIS is a big week for Guillermo Del Toro. We have the release of his long anticipated adaptatin of his Vampire novels The Strain set to air on Sunday, he’s also been talking about his plans to finally make his passion project, an adaptationf of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness, and that he would be making a weird, “little black and white film” before he starts on Pacific Rim 2 as announced in a YouTube video. Aswell as all of this, he’s making an animted series based on Pacific Rim.
He discussed details of this in an interview today: “We’re going for a long arc, so the idea is to show a group of characters—we have pilots, functional Jaegers, but we have all these younger characters. I really want to explore things that are complimentary to the things that I want to explore in the second movie: drift, what drifting does to you, what is needed to drift, a lot of stuff that I think is important, but also the Jaeger technology, the kaijus being evolved, ideas about the precursors—the guys that control the kaijus.”
Pacific Rim was, for this writer’s money, one of the most enjoyable blockbusters of the last few years and it’s pastiche ‘monsters vs robots’ style should translate perfectly to the medium and it will be interesting to see how much of a role Del Toro plays in the series. The series will not be Del Toro’s first foray into animation after the previously announced feature, The Book of the Dead.
