New Studio Ghibli Movie Trailer Revealed

A NEW MOVIE trailer has been released for the latest Studio Ghibli movie When Marnie Was There. This is the first film since Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement although it will not be the first post-Miyazaki Ghibli film to be released internationally as Isao Takahata’s film The Tale of Princess Kaguya is estimated for an international release later this year.

When Marnie Was There is being directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi who, similar to his last film The Secret World of Arrietty, has adapted a popular English novel, written by Joan Robinson.

The story is set around Anna, a child in foster care without friends. While exploring the sand dunes she meets and befriends Marnie. The two become close friends until one day Marnie disappears. The story has been described as a ghost tale while exploring themes of friendship and isolation.
